The following items were discussed at the Signal Class on September 27, 2003:

All OERM Signal batteries are NI-CAD (Nickel Cadmium).
These are non-sealed (differernt than consumer type) and require maintenance of the water level.
Nominal 10V systems for signal circuits.
Nominal 16V systems for Gate Motors.
Charger is a "constant-voltage" type.
Ni-cad batteries are "opposite" chemistry from typical lead-acid batteries:
Lead Acid is acid based
Ni-cad are akyline based.
If battery acid gets on your skin you must immediately neutralize with a wash opposite to the chemistry:
Ni-cad wash = vineager
Lead-acid wash = baking soda
CAN NOT USE HYGROMETER ON Ni-cads.
Maintenance consists of checking water level and load test.
