Signal Garden
|
Work on the signal garden this weekend consisted of coordination and planning with Barry Todd designer and
programmer of the microcontroller. The long term build out and needed programming changes were discussed.
Future plans call for the following: August 24 (Sunday) - plan overall design, September - program changes,
October - rewire controller and cabinet. |

Alpine Wig-Wag/Motor Switch
|
Replacement of cable to the East side WigWag is needed -- this will require installing cable
under the main track. The Hirth's plan is to install this new cable on a Friday when trains
should not be running. The work date is TBD. |

Alpine-Middleton Cable Replacement
|
Discussions continued -- it is still hoped that late this summer the cable will be replaced.
The ladder needed to work on each pole was purchased this weekend. Next Mike will purchase the "V" bracket
with Hooks (probably from Graybar) which will attach to the top of the ladder and allow it to safely rest
on a pole or hang on the messenger cable. The latest plan is to add an additional new messenger cable for
the new signal cable and leave the old messenger in place. Cable is available but it is not long enough to
complete the entire run in one segment. A splice box will probably be installed in the middle of the run --
this box will be down near ground level to allow easy maintenance (one of the problems with the existing
cables splice boxes which are high up the poles). |

11th St Xing Tie Shoring
|
On Sunday July 27, Gary and Allen measured the needed ties at 11th St Xing (North track circuit), found
available ties, cut them to length and drilled "spike" holes in the short lengths but ran out of time to complete
the holes in the long one. This should be completed on Saturday August 23. |

Signal Document Organizing and Filing
|
During the following week, Allen began the big task of organizing, cataloging, and filing all of the
documents in the Signal Shop. He made great progress and created a good
list of the sorted documents - this list is just draft
at this point. After final cataloging, a full list will be posted in the
Museum drawings and documents section
of this web site. |
