OERM Signal Project Notes - October 25, 2003

The following items were repaired, installed, or maintained by the "class crew" on October 25/26, 2003 :

     Alpine Wig-Wag/Motor Switch

The old track wire pedestel was removed as part of preparation and installation of the new entrance crossing. Temp wires for the track circuit are now in (to the new pull box on the west side of the track just north of Alpine) until new track wires are connected north of the new pedestrian entrance as part of a new crossing (probably short 60s style gates and flashers). As part of the rewiring for the pedestel removal, the wire for the east wig-wag is now a continuous run back to the cabinet with no splices.
     South-End New Track Wire Bonds

Darrel installed additional double bonds on the new south track needed for both electric vehicle operation as well as the track circuits for Mapes crossing.
     Signal Garden

Monthly weeding and sprinkler maintenance performed in the Signal Garden by Allen, Ron, and Gary.
     Equipment CleanUp/Storage

A large box of numerous Timer Relays and other electronic boxes were moved from a tarp covered but susceptible to the weather location to secure storage in one of the Signal Shelters out in the back signal storage area.
     Oil Junction Signals

Oil Junction Signal Shelter was studied and plans discussed for completing it and moving it to trackside at Oil Junction. Wiring needs to be neatened and hopefully adjusted enough so that all relays are serviceable as well as a neat and tidy installation. Additionally, a change since the orignal wiring was done from Colorlight signal heads to Searchlight signal heads will necessitate some relay changes and subsequent rewiring. The signal heads are being changed since it has been determined that the prototypical use of our signal bridge at Oil Junction was with Searchlight signals.
Second Street House Aerial Telephone Cable

Mike Carpenter and Steve Struman completed installation of a 25 pair aerial cable from Gift Shop to Second Street House replacing several old inside-wire (IW) aerial runs that were sagging and unsighting not to mention probably not going to last much longer. This cable provides phone service to Second Street Hourse and Town Hall (via a couple of existing single pair line wire aerial drops from Second Street House to Town Hall). Next will be upgrade of the aerial cables from Second Street House to Town Hall.
