OERM Signal Project Notes - November 22, 2003

The following items were repaired, installed, or maintained by the "class crew" on November 22/23, 2003 :

     Monthly Inspections

Gene taught a small group about Monthly Inspections as he performed this at Member's Crossing. Afterward, Gary, Allen and Ray performed the inspection at Central and Mapes. At Alpine Xing, the Hirth's joined in as well. 11th-Street Crossing will be done by Gene separately.
     Alpine Wig-Wag/Motor Switch

Everything is working OK at Alpine crossing except for removal of some old crossing and switch wires that are still connected "somewhere" and leaving a stray voltage on the decommissioned WigWag crossing cables. A little "searching" for this was done as part of the monthly inspection but nothing was yet found.
     Signal Garden Wig-Wag

The lower quadrant wig-wag has been a little "sluggish" lately so maintenance was performed by Allen and Gary (with Gene's guidance). This was a learning experience for Allen and Gary -- a fair amount of thinking and reading of the manual. The front and rear bearings were oiled and the rear contact adjusted. It was working OK when we finished but since it was intermittent before, we aren't positive yet that this fixes all -- we'll be watching.

Monthly weeding and sprinkler maintenance also continued in the Signal Garden by Allen and Gary.
     Shop Ladder and Clean-Up

The Signal Shop was organized. The ladder was rehung to allow movement by a single person if needed.
     Oil Junction Shelter

Oil Junction Signal Shelter wiring changes for relay serviceability and the change to Searchlight signal heads was discussed but no further work performed. The redesigned circuit has been completed by Gene. The goal is to move the shelter to Oil Junction as soon as possible.
